One-Two Punch!

Yes... our "Winter Storm Warning" just got upgraded to a "Blizzard Warning." It's the first one we've had since we moved here 4 winters ago. That made me curious as to when the last blizzard was for this area, and after surfing around a bit, I can't seem to find records of a blizzard around here since 1978... the "Great Blizzard" as it is referred to around these parts. Evidently it shut down Central Ohio for a couple of days... oh my! Is that what we are in store for this weekend?

I ran outside to measure the snow, and there's almost 5 inches on the ground right now. I've read that we may have another 4-6 inches tonight and then another 4-6 inches tomorrow... okay, people, that's a total of 13-17 inches. The NWS reports a total of 10-15 inches by tomorrow afternoon. Either way, that's WAY TOO MUCH snow for this poor little Southern girl!

427 PM EST FRI MAR 7 2008
...A BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT
THROUGH 4 PM SATURDAY...

EXTREME WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE OVERNIGHT.

STEADY SNOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE REGION INTO THE EVENING. AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION CAN BE EXPECTED THROUGH 9 PM. THE SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES CAUSING WHITEOUT AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT.

THIS STORM WILL HIT AS A ONE TWO PUNCH AND THERE MAY BE A BRIEF LULL IN THE SNOW INTENSITY ACTIVITY THIS EVENING... BEFORE PICKING UP IN INTENSITY AGAIN OVERNIGHT WHEN THE SECOND PUNCH HITS. BEFORE THE STORM DIMINISHES SATURDAY AFTERNOON YOU CAN EXPECT 10 TO 15 INCHES OF ACCUMULATION.

DO NOT TRAVEL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. CONDITIONS CAN DETERIORATE RAPIDLY IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.

I'll report back later... maybe with some pics! In the meantime, I think I'll put on another pot of coffee --- Community, that is!
