Matt Maher... a new CD!

mattmaherbanner

It's like a birthday gift for Brooklyn by the guy who recorded her favorite song!!

After Passion '07 (and a brief chance to meet him as he went up the "stairwell" that we were entrusted to be "doorkeepers" over that weekend), Brian downloaded Matt Maher's CD, Overflow, off of iTunes. Brooklyn somehow connected with the song "For Your Glory" and would squeal with delight when she and Brian would dance around the room to that song. It's a fantastic song... check out these lyrics:

There is a time to dance,
A time for joy's embrace,
And in all seasons, God
we humbly seek Your face.

This is our offering to You,
This is our offering.

Everything I am is for Your glory,
Everything, I am for You, Lord.
Everything I am is for Your glory,
Everything, I am for You, Lord.

And then I really love the bridge...

The earth stands still without You.
We could only move because You made us to.
The world is nothing without You.
We could only love you because You made us to.

I gotta give the kid credit... she's got great taste in music! You can click here to hear the entire song.

And the greater news is that if you are a blogger, you can click here to get a free copy of latest CD, Empty and Beautiful, which is due in stores TODAY!

Conversations with Dylan: That's not Chris Tomlin...

My kid knows his music and artists... seriously, he does :). Yesterday, Dylan came into the worship service with me, and the worship leader started to play "Made to Worship." Dylan peered as high as he could to see the band on stage, and with a very puzzled look he said (not too quietly, either), "Mom, that is not Chris Tomlin!" It caused quite a little stir on our row.

Later, he followed up that astute observation with "Mom, I have to go poopoo!" That wasn't quiet either... but to his credit, he really did have to go!
Oh, bringing kids into the church service is always an adventure!

An Unusual Christmas Wish List...

Yesterday while we were driving to the grocery store, Dylan started talking about music. The conversation went a bit like this...

Dylan: I want to learn to play music, Mom.

Me: Oh yeah? Which instrument do you want to learn to play?

Dylan: The drums. But I need a lot of instruments for Christmas to learn to play.

Me: Which ones?

Dylan: Well, first --- you know --- I need a stage. It doesn't have to be a big stage. I only need a little stage. And then I need 2 guitars, one piano, a drum set. I think I need some microphones and amp-uh-friers, too. May I please have that for Christmas?

Me: That's a lot to ask for. What are you going to do with all that stuff?

Dylan: I need it to play the "Oh No Song" and "O Praise the One".

Me (silently to myself): I guess I need to ask for a sound proof room for Christmas!

Hymns: Ancient & Modern...

This morning I started pulling out the fall decorations. I almost always wait until the final week of September to decorate, and here it is! Knee deep in pumpkins, gourds, and scarecrows, we decided to turn on a little music. Around here, we sing a lot of old hymns interspersed with a lot of modern worship music, so I scrolled through the ipod until I found this album --- Hymns: Ancient & Modern from the folks at Passion.

You know what... with songs like "O Worship the King," "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty," and "Fairest Lord Jesus," it made the perfect background music to prepare the house for a season of gratefulness.

"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done."
1 Chronicles 16:8

Just something I can't stop listening to...

We've had this song on the iPod for a while now, but after Passion, I just can't get this one out of my head (or my heart, for that matter). Bookmark it --- "From the Inside Out" Video!

"From the Inside Out" by Hillsong United
A thousand times I've failed, Still Your mercy remains
And should I stumble again, I'm caught in Your grace
Everlasting... Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending... Your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else, My purpose remains
The art of losing myself, In bringing You praise
Everlasting... Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending... Your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart and my soul, Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out, Lord

Let justice and praise become my embrace
To love you from the inside out
Everlasting... Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending... Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out, Lord my soul cries out

It's My Turn Now...

Okay... Brian had his shot a few weeks ago. Then the LA Tech Band did something to their webpage with the MP3 files, and I couldn't post my song. It's back now, so it's my turn... September is just around the corner, and in this land of Scarlet and Grey "nuts" --- okay, "Buckeyes" --- I have to make my southern bulldog voice heard. So, turn down the volume if you're not for the "Old Red and Blue" and if you are --- well --- sing along!!

Oh Praise Him...

Check out this SI article about Olympic Snowboarder, Kelly Clark. As she competed last week, she listened to David Crowder's Oh Praise Him. She didn't medal this year, but it looks like she knows what's really important in this life!
